Doesn’t he look adorable in his Colin Creevey Costume? I couldn’t have picked a better costume for him in our family Harry Potter theme. His favorite character in Harry Potter is Dobby. But he wanted to be a Hogwarts student like his brothers. This boy is always trying to keep up with them. Another reason why he makes the perfect Colin. I wish you could here is little voice say, “Hi. I’m Colin Creevey. I’m in Gryffindor too.”
Yoda has the biggest heart and his as loyal as they come. He’s adores his big brothers and they are pretty great at letting him hang out with him. And I love that his size fits perfectly with his character compared to his older brothers. I think Colin was the perfect choice for Halloween this year. He’s just like Colin, with just a bit like Fred and George too.
DIY Colin Creevey Costume Tutorial
Head over here to learn how to make his Gryffindor robe and tie from this DIY Harry Potter Post. Or you can pick one up here from Amazon. And I didn’t realize what a great deal the ties were. Probably should have just bought them. They will totally wear them to church.
I also wanted to show you how to make Colin’s camera. Otherwise no one would know who he was. I wanted to try and replicate the large old school flash that you see in the movie. I searched the Goodwill and found that awesome Tupperware piece for 70 cents. When I got it home I painted it with some Folk Art Metallic paint.
Next I cut two pieces of wood from my scrap wood pile. I had my hubby help me screw them together. I needed the little square to help me position the “flash” in the right spot. And then we were able to screw the painted tupperware piece to the wood.
Then I glued a ping pong call in the center to give it the appearance of a flash. I tired to mimic the camera style from the movie. My painting skills aren’t 100 percent but Yoda was so excited when he saw his camera. I had everything on hand except the ping pong ball which my friend gave me and the piece of tupperware, so it made for an inexpensive costume prop.
Right now Yoda and I are reading the 2nd illustrated Harry Potter book The Chamber of Secrets. I just love reading Harry Potter with him. When we finish we are going to watch the movie together. It makes for wonderful one on one time as we read. It’s going to be awhile till we finish the Harry Potter series so please no one tell him what happens to Colin or Dobby. I found a really great article about Colin and the brave things he did, even though he was young and small. His character has so many wonderful traits. As my son and I continue to read this series together I will be sure to point out the courage and loyalty Colin continues to show.
I think this costume is a great tribute to a dear friend. Plus if you make this robe you can always go as Fred or George or Harry next year. By the way these Pumpkin Pasties taste better when you are wearing Hogwarts Robes.
And I mean look at how adorable he is! Be sure to follow along on Instagram and Facebook to stay connected. And if want to check out his brother’s costumes click the links below. Or keep scrolling and see our past Halloween Themes.
