We are so excited to learn about the letter E this week!
Focusing on a letter each week helps me plan fun activities and teach my daughter to recognize the letter and the phonics so we can work on reading. These lessons and ideas are perfect for moms who want to save money and do preschool from home or moms that want to plan some enriching activities with their kids. We started the Letter of the week when my oldest was a baby and we’ve done it with all four of my children. It’s seriously so much fun!
Also check out my preschool morning schedule post. I love the structure I get when I can start my mornings with my daughter. This week we’ve been on fall break so things have been a little lax and I can see the difference when we stick to our schedule.

LETTER CRAFT FOR THE LETTER E
I love this easy craft idea! My daughter already knows how to trace the letters before we get started. I draw an uppercase and lowercase letter E on card stock. This week she had fun gluing googly eyes on the letter E. While she does this we talk about what sounds a E makes and words we know that start with the letter E.
(See craft image above)
LESSONS FOR THE LETTER E
Lesson on the letter E– I teach my daughter about the letter E as we work on our E craft pictures above. She practices tracing the letter E before she glues on the little eyes. Sometimes I have her circle all the E’s in a word search or make an E with play doh. While she’s working I ask her what an E says as we review the sounds it makes.
Empty or Full Lesson– Sometimes we use words so commonly and forget to explain them to our kids. Have jars, cups, or baskets with objects in them. Talk about how the ‘basket’ is either full or empty. Let your child put things in or take them out. You can even count items that you are removing. Talk about how sometimes our tummies can feel full, because there is lots of food in them. When our tummies feel full we should listen and stop eating. Sometimes our tummies feel empty or hunger.
Walk around your home and look for containers that are either full or empty. Follow up with these great worksheets.
Elizabeth Blackwell Lesson– Elizabeth Blackwell was born in 1821 in England. (Find England on a globe or map) She was the first woman to receive her medical degree in the United States. It was challenging because she had a hard time finding a school that would let her study. She worked as a physician and pioneered the way for woman doctors. While working on her medical education in Europe she was able to work at a hospital with the understand she would be treated as a midwife and not a physician.
Physicians had to learn about the body including ears and eyes. You can find coloring pages for showing gratitude for eyes and ears. Talk about the purpose of our eyes and ears and how they bless our lives.
Books that Start with the Letter E
Escargot by Dashka Slater and Sydney Hanson– This cute French book is about a snail who wants to be your friend and get to the salad at the end of the book.
Emmanuel’s Dream by Laurie Ann Thompson– This amazing book is based off a true story. Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah is born with one deformed leg. His mother taught him that he can do anything. Emmanuel becomes an amazing cyclists and share his message that disability is not inability.
Emma by Jennifer Adams and Alison Oliver– I just love these Babylit books. Hoping my daughter is a future Austen fan. This book teaches all about emotions.
