Our family LOVES Dragon Prince, a Netflix original show. My oldest was thrilled to be Callum, the step son of King who struggles to fit into his prince duties. It’s always more fun when your child is really excited about their costume. And this Callum costume is a favorite of mine too!
And I love making homemade costumes! But I also love putting together costumes in a homemade way. I headed to Desert Industries, my favorite thrift store, to see if I could find any gems for his costume. Why spend time and money to create something that is waiting to be found at a thrift store?
I was pretty thrilled to find everything I pretty much needed at Desert Industries for my Callum costume. And for about $20 bucks. And half of that was for his boots!
I found him some grey church pants (that he can use after this holiday) for $5. And I found him a blue jacket for $6. And some boots for $10. I love that all of these items can be used again.

After searching for items in the men’s department I headed over to house wares to search through the table cloths and drapes. I found that burgundy little number for $3 or 4 dollars. Not only is it a sturdier fabric but it’s also got a nice design to give his costumes some character. Such a better deal than buying material from a fabric store.

I bought one panel of material and made that into a vest. I simply added some gold trim and a belt we already had. I had some spare red material and made an easy infinity scarf and his costume was almost complete. (See the tutorial I used here) He just needed simple black gloves from the dollar store that we cut off the fingers for and his costume was complete.
It only took 1/2 a day to put together his Callum costume and he was so thrilled! He looks so darling! Man, I can’t believe he’s growing up so much. I just love teenage Gandalf. He makes me laugh all the time. And I love when he shares his favorite parts of Dragon Prince with me. Watching the same shows and reading the same books brings such a fun connection.
