I am loving my DIY Dinning Room Chairs I made a couple of months ago! Our family has been needing some new chairs for quite some time. I found these great chairs on a virtual garage sale in our area. Were you guessing I found them on side of the road? I know that’s my usual way of scoring new furniture but I went ahead and bought these chairs. And I am so glad that I did! The bones of these dinning room chairs are great, super sturdy and well made. And the color wasn’t bad. But that fabric needed to be covered.
I started by removing the fabric. Flipping the chairs over I unscrewed chair pads. Taking off the material took a little more time. Using pliers I removed the previous owner’s material. I suggest keeping one to measure so you know how much material to buy. Next I wiped down the chairs. My lack of sneezing told me that the hair didn’t belong to a cat. Always good news! Sometimes I make my husband or kids wipe down furniture for me if I sense cat hair.
Next I used BB Frosch to make my own chalk paint. I love this stuff!!! You may remember my post with the dresser I found on the side of the road. These chairs turned out just as beautiful. The chalk paint is easy to make. I mixed it with Valspar’s Urban Sunrise from Lowe’s. The color choice makes sense because of the urban feel my house gives off. Honestly I love how great chalk paint covers up scuffs and marks. I was able to paint these bad boys in an afternoon. The next morning I sealed them with some wax.
And probably the best part is covering these chairs with new material and vinyl. They are such a breeze to clean. Between sweaty feet and endless spills my chairs still look amazing. The trapezoid shape was a little tricky with covering, especially with the vinyl. I found it went best to work from the front to the back. I kinda had to fold over the corners to make it work. Square cushions would be easier. But I love the way they look. I picked up some material/vinyl from Walmart and I was ready to go. You just need a staple gun and a couple of hours.
Someday I won’t need the plastic vinyl. And I’m sure when those days get here I will long for the day when my kids couldn’t eat without spilling at every meal. So I am going to relish this time in our lives. You can see from the picture above that we still have our Thankful Tree up. I love all the blessing we have been given this year. I’m so thankful we were able to buy our own place. I’m thankful we have a safe place to live and food on our table. And I am thankful for these beautiful new chairs that have blessed our family. I love eating dinner together every night.
So even though I have so many ideas and plans for our new space I will be happy with what we have and not dwell on what we want. You may also notice from the picture above that I am half way done painting that room. Kinda crazy but as I was finishing up painting our laundry room I had some leftover paint and I didn’t want to waste it. So I decided to use up the rest and get started on that wall. It only took my hubby a couple of weeks to realize what I had done. I am hoping this month to finish that wall and to paint over that yellow in my kitchen.
But meanwhile I will be happy we have new chairs for our family to enjoy as we play games or eat family dinner. I just love these new chairs! And I can’t wait to show you what I want to do with the rest of this paint. I love it when I can make something over with a little paint and time. I love the way they look with the table my dear friend built for me. And does anyone else love having fresh flowers in their home? It’s amazing what some fresh flowers can do to your mood. Flowers just make my heart happy. And yellow has to be one of my favorite colors!
What do you love most about this post? The gorgeous grey color, the cheerful flowers, or the ease of cleaning these chairs? Have you redone your dinning room chairs lately? I would love to see what you’ve done. Leave a link below or share a picture in the comments on Facebook. What would your dream chairs look like?
