We are so excited to learn about the letter D this week! And maybe it has something to do with donuts. I’m thinking Hurts Donuts in Tempe. In case this is your first post in our series, I am doing preschool at home with my daughter this year. I plan out three days worth of lessons and plan on a field trip with that letter. Sometimes our week is crazy and we combine lessons or have to cut out an activity.
Focusing on a letter each week helps me plan fun activities and teach my daughter to recognize the letter and the phonics so we can work on reading. These lessons and ideas are perfect for moms who want to save money and do preschool from home or mom that want to plan some enriching activities with their kids. We started the Letter of the week when my oldest was a baby. It’s seriously so much fun!
Also check out my preschool morning schedule post. My daughter is beginning to grasp the concept of calendars and how they work. That is something that just takes time. Below you will find my lessons and links to fun ideas I’ve found online.

Letter Craft for the Letter D
I love this easy craft idea! My daughter already knows how to trace the letters before we get started. I draw an uppercase and lowercase letter D on card stock. This week I cut out diamond shapes out of construction paper. She is really improving with gluing on objects. While she does this we talk about what sounds a D makes and words we know that start with the letter D.

Lessons for the Letter D
Dairy Farm:
Last week we talked about cows with the letter C. Dairy cows help us get the milk we drink. If you have a dairy farm near you be sure to plan a visit! Talk about what kinds of foods come from milk. Maybe you can even try some in your lunch that day. I love this activity where you can practice milking a cow. Heidi even links to a homemade butter recipe. And be sure to share any dairy books you love in the comments below.
Delores Huerta:
Delores was born in 1920 in New Mexico. Later she moved to central California where her mother own a hotel and restaurant. Her mother Alicia often helped people who didn’t have a lot of money. Her mother was a great example to Delores. She grew up and became a teacher. She shared this thought,
“I couldn’t tolerate seeing kids come to class hungry and needing shoes. I thought I could do more by organizing farm workers than by trying to teach their hungry children.”
Delores was an activist. An activist is some one who wants to bring about social change. Delores saw that farm workers needed help and rights. She worked hard to help people receive fair treatment at work. She was willing to speak up for others and encourage people to treat other fairly. Everyone is important on this earth regardless of there financial situation or the color of their skin. I am so thankful for strong women who want to make the world a better place. If we see a problem and can find a solution we should do it!
