What better way to spend some quality one on one time with your daughter than a mother/daughter spa day? I’ve been painting my daughter’s toes since she was a baby. I was so excited to have a little girl. And my girl is totally girlie! She’s a big fan of Fancy Nancy. You may remember her Four & Fabulous Fancy Nancy Party last year. To introduce my daughter to the glorious idea of a spa day we read Fancy Nancy’s Ooh La La ! It’s a beauty Day. I just love Fancy Nancy books and this one does not disappoint!
For our spa day we planned facials and a spa pedicure. I love the opportunity to teach my daughter the importance of taking care of our bodies. There are lots of things we can do from home to take care of our skin, nails, and hair. I’m thrilled to give tips and ideas to create a fun and relaxing morning or afternoon. My daughter really enjoyed our time together. And I think she’s going to become a spa girl like her mom. As a hairdresser I learned the importance of taking care of my skin. Our salon had an amazing esthetician who converted me to the #spalife.
What You Need For an At Home Spa Day:
- Relaxing Music. I like this playlist from Spotify. Music really helps to set the mood and help your brain relax.
- Fragrant Candles. Spas always have smells throughout their rooms. Sometimes they have different aromas in each area.
- Spa Water. Ice water with cucumbers, mint, or berries will keep you hydrated. Drinking cucumber water always reminds me of the first time I went to a spa. I feel more relaxed when I’m drinking it. Taste is a powerful memory.
- Foot Bath. You need a place for your feet to soak. Nancy recommends putting marbles on the bottom of your foot bath.
- Pillows. Make sure you have pillows to keep you comfy.
- Bath Scrubs. We made our own scrub with this recipe from the Idea Room. You can find a fun containers online.
- Facial Mask. I use this one from a health store or you can order online.
- Towels. It’s great to have hand towels on hand for your pedicure.
- Fruit Parfaits. Having a little snack is a perfect for your spa day. Be sure to pick something healthy to help everyone feel their best. Serving it in a fancy glass just makes it more fun.
We choose to read Nancy’s books as we worked on our spa activities. We sent the brothers away so we could have some one on one time. My daughter loves drinking fancy spa water and I was surprised how much she liked the music. She loved soaking her feet while I put on her mask. My job was to serve and pamper her. But she might want to do my nails when she gets older.
At Home Pedicure Steps:
- Remove polish with cotton. Clip toenails with straight clippers. To shape use an emery board and file in one direction.
- Fill a basin with warm water and scoop in bath salts, kosher salt, or Epsom salts, add your favorite essential oils. Soak 8 to 10 minutes.
- Remove one foot from your bath. Apply a scrub and scrub your feet. Rinse your foot and repeat with your other foot. (be prepared for the cutest giggles)
- Massage with oil or your favorite lotion. I love Aveda’s Foot Relief. (seriously the best!)
- Apply Cuticle Oil. I like Solar Oil. With an orange stick or metal tool push back your cuticles, using small circles.
- Remove residue from nails with cotton and apply polish. Two coats and then your top coat. Let dry.
For our mask I used mask powder. I added honey, lemon juice, water and some eucalyptus oil from DoTerra. That smell is amazing. I love using essential oils in my foot bath or in a diffuser. And of course for minor health problems.
We sure to talk and ask questions while you do your daughter’s pedicure. It’s so much easier to chat when you are getting pampered. I loved listening to my daughter giggle as I scrubbed her feet. I shared the importance of exfoliating our bodies and why we use lotion. My daughter loved picking out the polish. She chose purple with purple sparkles! Of course I wanted my toes to match. She felt so grown up suggesting a color for me. And she loved how smooth her skin felt after our scrub and mask.
I know we are going to have to do this again someday. It was perfect over spring break. And honestly I felt so relaxed, even though I was working and reading most the time. I tell you that music and spa water really helps set the mood. You could even invite over friends or cousins if you wanted. And I’m sure we are going to have a spa birthday party someday. I know spa birthdays are my personal favorite.
