Have you ever heard of a Sprinkle? It’s like a shower, but on a smaller scale. Instead of showering a new mom with gifts and attention you just give her a little sprinkle. I love this excerpt from Emily Post’s Book Etiquette “Is it all right to give showers the second, or even third, time a couple has a baby? Yes, but only when the guest list is limited to close relatives and very close friends and guests who didn’t attend a shower for the first baby. Showers for the next baby are also more appropriate if several years have passed since the new arrival” Showers and sprinkles help us connect and be a part of the celebration. Personally I love showers and celebrations when a new baby arrives. I think every baby should be celebrated. But that doesn’t mean there has to be a large party or even presents. I love putting “your presence is present enough” on invites to let guest know we just want to celebrate this special occasion.
In the past we have had little Baby Q’s to gather as friends and celebrate with dinner. We asked everyone to bring a new book for the baby. Or one time my girlfriends and I threw a Sprinkle (or mini shower) and made it a a Mustache Luncheon. Gifts weren’t necessary, but I loved that we could celebrate my friend’s 4th son. And now he is starting T-K!!! Celebrating a new baby is such a special memory. You can meet up as friends for lunch or grab a soda late one night.
My friend, and co-leader in cub scouts, was having her 5th baby. She is super sweet and totally insisted we didn’t need to do anything. But I love any excuse to have a party! I let everyone know gifts weren’t necessary but if they wanted they could bring a freezer meal. I thought we could keep with the Sprinkle theme and have an ice cream bar! It was fun and easy. And my kids loved the leftovers. I just picked up a large tub of vanilla ice cream and put out some toppings. I made some chocolate covered pretzels covered in sprinkles, of course. And I made these sugar cookie bars because they are so delicious!!! I dipped these martini glasses in corn syrup and then again in sprinkles. They are probably my favorite part of the party. Aren’t they festive?
For party decor I made some homemade confetti with a hole punch. Perfect excuse to watch some episodes of The Office. And I punched out some paper to add some sprinkles to my wall. they added some color and were so easy! Did I mention I put this together in a week? Her due date crept up on me and I was a little distracted with my daughter’s Mermaid Party. If I had more time I would have ordered these adorable lanterns!
The weekend before the shower I was blessed to be able to attend a blogger meetup with Say Hi Society. They let me know where I could snag some confetti balloons. Apparently they had them at Walmart. My kids loved these balloons and played with them for weeks! I took them to a local party store to get them blown up. One of the balloons got a little too big and popped confetti all over the place. It was pretty amazing! These balloons would be great for a dart carnival game.
I made these food tents and wrappers for the party real quick. Let me know if you want me to share those on the blog too! It just made the table look a little more finished. I was hoping to make some more decor but time just gets away from me. My 8 year old Draco told me he thought everything looked great because I always throw fun parties. Isn’t he the sweetest!
And because this Sea Salted Caramel was seriously the BEST I wanted to share the link with you! I may or may not have finished off the rest of the caramel days after the party! I had people asking me for the recipe the next day.
The Sprinkle went perfectly! We chatted and ate ice cream. Low key and delicious are my favorite things! Have you ever hosted a Sprinkle before? Share in the comment below and let us know your favorite way to honor and celebrate a new baby.
