I know I needed a storage solution for our dress up clothes. We recently bought a new place, which I love! Our kids room’s are quite smaller but I am totally on board with that because we know also have a loft. I have been loving having a play area for my kids. It has helped keep the kids room’s cleaner. So basically we are all happier.
Our kids love to dress up. And I love to make them costumes. We use to keep their dress up clothes under their bed in plastic storage bins. It made clean up fairly easy. But they weren’t very lovely to look at in our new loft. I have been on the hunt for wooden chest. I was so excited to find this little treasure for $8 at our local goodwill. You may have seen the sneak peak on Instagram. The paint job wasn’t terrible, just not what I wanted. I decided to paint it aqua and I love how it turned out!!!
I love using Chalk Paint! And I had some leftover Chalk Paint from Folk Art Home Décor paints from when I painted that frame I found on the side of the road. It was the perfect color. And I love how the paint goes a long way. I will have a bit left which will be perfect for future projects.
One of the great things about chalk paint is that you don’t need to prep or prime. Because my chest was so dark, I wasn’t sure if I could get coverage with the three quarters of the bottle that I had left. So I opted to use some basic paint I had to prime it first. I wanted to finish painting this project without having to run to the store to buy more. You can see the picture below after I applied one coat of the primer paint. Don’t be nervouswhen you apply the first coat. It gets better. Promise. After two coats of chalk paint it looked perfect. And I love that you don’t have to wait in between coats to add another layer. By the time I got around the chest it was ready for another coat. And with kids running around I love fasts projects. This was my first time using their antique wax. I’m still learning to work with it, but I really liked how it turned out.
My hubby may have preferred the chest without the antique wax. I liked it too, but I wanted to use the wax. I found this cute know at Hobby Lobby (40% off) and had to get it. It really doesn’t have a function other then to look pretty. I felt like it needed something.
This chest is big enough to hold most of our dress up clothes and it makes cleaning up a snap. And I love the long length to help hold our light sabers and swords. One can never have enough light sabers. The kids are really excited about their new chest. They couldn’t wait for me to take it upstairs.
